Case Study · Tervakorpi, Finland

30 MW in Northern Finland — the reference no competitor can replicate.

Tervakorpi is WLF's flagship deployment: a 30 MW battery energy storage system in Northern Finland, independently reviewed and project-financed. It is the European reference for BESS performance data at this scale.

Why Tervakorpi matters

Project-finance lenders do not fund unproven hardware. That is the barrier every battery storage developer runs into — and it is the barrier Tervakorpi clears. The deployment has been reviewed by an Independent Technical Advisor (ITA) and is financed by ING, giving developers and IPPs a bankable reference built on independently verified data rather than vendor claims.

The deployment

Phase 1 delivers 30 MW, with a planned +95 MW expansion contingent on Phase 1 results. Capex deployment for 2026 sits in the €10–41M range, targeting an IRR of approximately 30% at full deployment. The system runs WLF's full stack — location-adaptive chemistry, BMS, the proprietary EMS trading layer, and long-term O&M.

What it proves

  • Bankability: ITA-reviewed and ING-financed — the documentation project-finance lenders require.
  • Performance at scale: independently reviewed data at 30 MW, in a demanding Northern grid environment.
  • The full stack, working together: chemistry, BMS, EMS and grid trading operating as one integrated system.
